New England skiers are a different bunch, cut from a different cloth, always finding the bright side of every situation involving inclement weather.
Weather was not on our side this year for the FREESKIER Buyer's Guide Demo at Killington, VT, but New Englanders still came out in full force to test out the best skis on the market (photos below). The sub-par weather conditions are something of a formality for December ski conditions, the "pre-Christmas thaw" as we like to call it. Temps hovered around 38 degrees most of the day with a steady drizzle that softened up that top layer of snow, creating what was almost like spring skiing. Arcing turns and laying trenches, the classic East Coast skiing tradition, was the theme for the day.
Everybody was all smiles as the showers gave way to a nice chowdery fog that swiftly engulfed the Superstar quad. At this point, the party had started inside the K1 lodge - live music, free gear, and a Long Trail beer special to support the Flyin' Ryan Hawks Foundation got the night started as the lifts stopped spinning.
I was great to meet the FREESKIER crew and take some turns. A few photos from the day are below.
